AMERICAN RED CROSS RECEIVES $273,000 DONATION FROM MACY’S FOR CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE RELIEF

Camarillo, Calif., [January 28, 2019] — After wildfires devastated communities in northern and southern California, the American Red Cross has received a $273,000 donation from Macy’s to fund wildfire relief and recovery efforts in California. A check presentation will be held at the Thousand Oaks Macy’s in the women’s department at 590 W. Hillcrest Drive at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019. 

“Macy’s has been a great partner in our community for decades and we are very proud to have their support as we continue to provide comfort and care for those who have been affected by the devastating California wildfires,” said Hugh J. Quinn, Central California Region interim regional executive. 

In November, the Camp Fire incinerated the entire town of Paradise, and other small communities nearby, reducing homes to rubble and ash. The fire has become the most destructive and deadliest wildfire in California history and destroyed more than 13,000 residences. The Woolsey Fire started in Ventura county and scorched more than 96,940 acres in southern California and destroyed about 1,500 structures. 

“At Macy’s, we’re proud of the efforts our colleagues and customers consistently make to help take care of the communities where we live and work” said Del Hernandez, vice president store manager of Macy’s Thousand Oaks. “The devastation of the wildfires was widespread and directly impacted some of our own colleagues and customers, making our commitment to giving back even more meaningful. We’re honored that, through this campaign, Macy’s was able to support local relief efforts and contribute to the impactful work the American Red Cross does for the community.” 

Wildfires have affected entire communities in both northern and southern California, and the Red Cross has provided comfort and support to people in need. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from these disasters.
