Serving over 800 members with a robust waitlist, WAC is a vibrant hub for fitness, sport, and social connection. The club offers a wide range of amenities including tennis and pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor fitness facilities, group exercise classes, and a swimming pool. Beyond fitness, WAC serves as a cornerstone of the local community — a place where wellness, connection, and lifestyle come together.
WAC was acquired by new local ownership in February, and significant investment is being made to enhance the member experience and upgrade club facilities. We are now entering an exciting chapter of revitalization — and we’re looking for a passionate and experienced General Manager to lead that transformation.
Position Overview: The General Manager will oversee all day-to-day operations of Westlake Athletic Club, lead a team of approximately 60 employees, and ensure an exceptional experience for every member. This role is critical in executing the club’s vision, improving programming, elevating service standards, and fostering strong community engagement.
We are seeking a dynamic leader with a proven background in managing teams, improving operations, and creating memorable member experiences. Ideal candidates will bring 5+ years of General Manager experience, preferably in a fitness or hospitality setting, and have a strong understanding of what it takes to lead a successful turnaround environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Manage all aspects of daily operations across departments including tennis, pickleball, fitness, swim, group exercise, and member services. Ensure smooth coordination and top-tier service delivery throughout the club.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a staff of ~60 employees. Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and scheduling. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture across all departments.
- Program Development: Work with instructors and coaches to expand and enhance club programming. Introduce new classes, clinics, and events that resonate with our members and boost engagement across tennis, fitness, and aquatics.
- Member Experience & Engagement: Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the club. Develop strong relationships with members, proactively address feedback, and create experiences that drive satisfaction, retention, and referrals.
- Facility Upgrades & Improvements: Partner with ownership to manage and implement ongoing facility enhancements. Coordinate vendor relationships, timelines, and budgets while minimizing disruption to operations.
- Strategic & Financial Planning: Collaborate with ownership on long-term club strategy, growth initiatives, and budgeting. Use performance metrics to track progress, identify opportunities, and drive continued improvement.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a General Manager or senior operations role, ideally in the fitness, hospitality, or recreation industry.
- Leadership: Strong track record of leading and developing teams. Experience managing 40+ staff in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
- Turnaround Mindset: Background in turnaround or revitalization environments strongly preferred. Ability to implement structure, improve culture, and drive meaningful change.
- Community-Oriented: Deep appreciation for community engagement. Able to foster meaningful connections with members and lead with warmth and professionalism.
- Operational Acumen: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills. Proficient with operations software, scheduling systems, and member management tools.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, recreation, or related field is a plus but not required if experience criteria are met.
